Philippines is still a hugely patriarchal country, meaning that men or the strong men in the family still makes most of the decisions and are still hugely influential.
Now, there is nothing wrong in that setting in essence. But what comes with a patriarchal setting is the backward thinking it sometimes entails. You see, there are still some stereotypes existing in a “man rule” setting. For example, the classic binary difference expected between males and females.
We still see and read a lot of people who impose this rule, knowingly or unknowingly. There are still expectations on how a man should act, dress, and present himself. Of course, one of the most important things to remember is to always be manly. For women, they are expected to be more graceful, poised, and all-knowing, especially when it comes to their houses.
If you don’t prescribe to the status quo, you are already considered as a deviant and we all know what happens to them, a lot of judgements and painful experiences. There’s the constant teasing and name-calling. There’s also a lot of people who would talk behind you, and that’s all because you are different.
In the local show business scene, Enchong Dee have consistently been rumored to be effeminate. Since he started until now, he has been teased that maybe he really likes men and not women. His being single also contributed to the issues, other people are linking his singles to being queer, and not the more rational reason, such as he’s not yet ready to commit because he wants to focus on his job and career.
In his latest Instagram post, he shared a food adventure he had while he was in Cebu. He ate a local delicacy called “Saang”, it’s more commonly called conch meat which is naturally edible and is used in salads or soups.
Enchong was obviously having fun trying to figure out how to eat the whole things while he was on a yacht. He removed the end part because according to locals, this is the nasty part.
After he swallowed the whole thing, he said that it’s actually delicious and he was surprised because of the taste.
Enchong is currenly travelling with his friends, trying out new cuisines and acquiring a lot of new experiences.
Filipinos being critical, immediately commented on the post, saying that Enchong seems to forget his male image and is too effeminate on the video.
First time trying “Saang” ( what do you call it in your province or country? ) I look forward to this kind of food adventure wherever I go… so for this specific seafood you remove the bottom part because it’s where the nasty part is and just eat the entire thing🐚🤷🏻♂️😋 Taste good though🤙🏼 #EnchongAwesomeTravel 🇵🇭 #BastaTripMo 😉
