Aiza revealed the reason why he chose Ice Seguerra as his new name

Last year, OPM singer and guitarist Ice Seguerra (formerly Aiza) had a name change which really caught his fans off-guard. Just like fellow singer Jake Zyrus, Ice outed himself as a transgendered man who’s going through his own personal transformation into a male identity.

According to an interview published by PUSH, Ice Seguerra explained that the name change was a means for him to fully accept his new male identity. The musician even admitted that he was hesitant initially.

He said,

“Kasi change is not easy. A lot of people are used to calling me Aiza. Actually when I came out as trans, nagdadalawang-isip ako nun eh. Do I still need to come out as trans? I mean I already came out as a lesbian before so do I need to come out as trans pa ba? Ang dami kong coming out. Ako na ang hari ng coming out.”

Ice also said that it was wife Liza Dino, who convinced him to publically announce his identity as a transman.

He said,

“But it was actually my wife who told me na ‘Love, that’s who you are’. Embrace it kasi how do you expect people to embrace you kung ikaw mismo sa sarili mo di mo mayakap na Ice na ang gustong itawag sayo – na ayaw mo ng ‘ma’am.’”

Ice revealed that ‘little things’ like being called the wrong pronoun makes him feel frustrated and depressed. However, he didn’t allow the fear that comes with coming out to impede his happiness.

“So I had to come out. So hindi man matanggap ng mga tao lahat, at least they know,” Ice said.

To further clarify, the OPM singer chose the name “Ice” because that was already his nickname – and that it sounded very close to his original female name “Aiza.”

He revealed,

“So why Ice? First of all, di naman talaga malayo kasi Aiza. And since I was in high school, nickname ko na ‘yung Ice. So my closest friends, they call me Ice.”
