Cleaning up your surroundings might be one of the most boring things you can do in the world. However, if you look at the brighter side of things, you’ll soon learn that tidying up could open up a whole new unexplored world for you. This man who spent his time cleaning his grandfather’s attic stumbled upon an object so interesting that he got the rest of the internet world involved with it.
An Imgur user named John shared an unusual wooden box he found up in his granddad’s attic which had a red cross marked on it.
Recognizing the cross as the symbol of a medicine kit, he immediately documented the things he found once he opened it.
But before he went through the things inside the old chest, he first did a bit of research on what the box actually is. Upon digging up facts on the internet, he learned that it was indeed a box of medical supplies dating back March 1932, way before the start of World War II.
The box also had Japanese characters inscribed on it which made it even more mysterious since the Americans and the Japanese had no involvement with each other, whatsoever before the great war started.
He then found out that the box was a replica of a medical chest from Japan’s Showa Era, which occurred in between 1926 to 1989. Since the box contained medical supplies, it was designed to be waterproof and airtight. This meant that whatever trinkets he would find inside would be intact and in good condition.
When he opened it, he was able to prove that his hunch was right since it was filled with medical supplies and pill bottles. He even asked for the help of people on the internet to decipher the text written on each one.
Although he discovered that the box was not worth much since the meds inside were basically useless and expired, he still had a great time going through it since he learned so much as he was taken back through the past.
